Per a report from the Brazilian version of Goal, Wolves are one of three teams lining up a move for left-back Filipe Luis.
The Atletico Madrid man, who has twice reached the Champions League final, is set to be available on a free transfer when his contract with the Spanish side ends this summer.
Also targeting the Brazilian, according to Goal, are PSG and Flamengo. With that in mind, Nuno Santo could face a tough battle to land the experienced campaigner.
This season, Luis featured in 27 matches as his side finished only second to Barcelona in La Liga. Capped 33 times by Brazil, he’s played in the Premier League before, winning the title with Chelsea in his only spell in the English game so far.
Whilst at Stamford Bridge he failed to really set the world alight but Wolves supporters shouldn’t judge him on that one season alone.
With the Midlands club pondering a move, Football FanCast writers have given their verdicts on whether he’d be a good signing. Here’s what they said.
Harry Sherlock:
“Filipe Luis would be an ideal signing for Wolves this summer. An experienced campaigner with a genuine pedigree in European football, his availability has rightly sent clubs scrambling. He is 33 but he can supplement their defensive numbers nicely as they attempt to improve on 2018-19’s seventh-placed finish. It would make sense and is, in actuality, something of a no-brainer, particularly as there isn’t a transfer fee involved.”
James Beavis:
“He is the exact type of signing Wolves should make this summer. The west Midlands outfit are going to have matches coming out of their ears next year should they qualify for the group stages of the Europa League, and they will need all of the bodies they can get. Luis may be 33, but he has bundles of experience and can make a difference either in the starting XI or from the substitutes’ bench. Being an established left-sided defender himself, he would give Ruben Vinagre the guidance he needs to become a key first-teamer for Wanderers.”

Luke Glanville:
“With UEFA Europa League involvement next season, Wolves are undoubtedly going to need a bigger squad and must start expanding. Some of these arrivals are going to have to be free transfers and loans and Filipe Luis on a free is a fantastic one to start with. The 33-year-old will bring some much-needed European experience to the table and could even be saved just for Europa League clashes. He may be comfortably into his 30s, but Luiz still has plenty to offer and Nuno Espirito Santo would be stupid to turn the former Ajax, Real Madrid, Chelsea and current Atletico Madrid star down if he’s costing nothing.”
