George Honeyman has completed a switch to Hull City, after reports this week claimed the Black Cats will bank £400,000 from his departure.
Honeyman’s contract was set to expire next summer, so the club may consider themselves lucky to have made any money from his exit.
However, it does leave Ross with a gaping hole in the middle of the park, and more importantly it leaves the boss without a skipper.
With so little experience as a manager – this will be just his fifth season in the dugout – it is crucial Ross selects the perfect on-field leader.
