Aston Villa boss Steve Bruce has made signing Chelsea starlet Tammy Abraham his next priority as a deal edges closer for Yannick Bolasie, The Birmingham Mail reports.
What’s the word?
After securing Anwar El Ghazi on loan from Lille earlier this week, Aston Villa are edging towards another addition in the wide areas as a deal for Everton’s Yannick Bolasie edges towards completion – and Bruce’s work is not done.
The club’s next priority is to bolster their forward line with the addition of a new forward and The Birmingham Mail states Chelsea starlet Tammy Abraham has emerged as Bruce’s main priority heading into the final week of the loan window.
20-year-old England international Abraham is likely to be loaned out by Chelsea once again after spending recent campaigns with Swansea City and Bristol City, catching the eye with the latter by scoring 23 goals in 41 Championship appearances.
How will he fit in?
Steve Bruce has utilised a 4-4-1-1 formation in all four of Aston Villa’s Championship games so far this season but his recruits late in the window could lead to a shift in tactics – especially if Abraham, who was the subject of a £25m bid by Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month, is drafted into the club.
Bolasie and El Ghazi are likely to replace Albert Adomah and Ahmed El Mohamady in the wide positions, with Abraham potentially partnering Jonathan Kodjia at the spearhead of Villa’s line-up – which would also mean a deeper role for Jack Grealish.

Should that occur, Birkir Bjarnason is the likely man to miss out as new recruit John McGinn has shone in a central role at Villa Park and is likely to retain his spot, which could lead to a solid partnership with Grealish.
Perhaps most importantly though, Aston Villa will boast significant depth for the gruelling Championship campaign that lies ahead.
