Brentford striker Ollie Watkins has revealed that he dreams of playing for Arsenal one day, and his comments have been met with a positive reaction from fans.
The 24-year-old is enjoying a brilliant season with the Bees this term, scoring 22 goals and making three assists in 36 Championship appearances, and if he continues his current rate of development he could very well end up fulfilling his ambition.
Watkins has previously been linked with Crystal Palace which shows some people believe he is capable of playing in the Premier League, while the recent good fortune for Eddie Nketiah indicates that Watkins may not actually be out of place at the Emirates.
After all, he has managed to become a key player for a top Championship side, a feat Nketiah couldn’t achieve on loan at Leeds this season, where he made just two league starts.
Here are some of the plaudits that Watkins has received from Arsenal fans.
The Brentford forward obviously has a lot of improvement still to make if he is to play for a top-six side given he is untested in the top division, but he has filled the gap left by Neal Maupay expertly.
Since leaving Brentford Maupay has gone on to score eight goals in 22 league starts this term for Brighton, which shows players can make the step up, and that’s why it is not ludicrous for supporters to suggest the Gunners should sign him, as some have done.
Can you name all of these obscure Arsenal signings? Give it a go now!
